LA Launches EV Sharing Program

| Apr 27, 2018 - Car sharing goes electric-only in Los Angeles. Members pay a small monthly fee ($5 for most families, $1 for low income households), and then a per-minute usage charge (20 cents standard rate, 15 cents per minute for low income households) each time they use a car. According to LA Downtown News, the initial roll out only features 25 cars—but that will expand to 100 cars, 40 locations and 200 recharging points by the end of the year. By 2021, the goal is to triple in size. (more ...)

| Feb 1, 2017 - In a future where the world’s car fleet is rapidly transitioning to electric vehicles, gas stations will ultimately become convenience stores where one can spend a few minutes to grab a bite while the car fast charges. | Jan 8, 2015 - heraldnet.com - Governor Inslee wants to see a lot more electric vehicles in the state in five years, and he's willing to spend a few million taxpayer dollars to make it happen. His plans include incentives to make it easier to own an EV in hopes of boosting the number in Washington State from 10,000 today to 50,000 by 2020. This is almost 10 times what we have in BC. 10 litres of gas requires 16 to 18 kwH of electricity to refine from crude. You could drive a typical EV 100 km on that same electricity. That's not counting the drilling, pumping and transport to gas stations. And what about the energy for extracting the bitumen?

A 1912 Production Electric Car

Shown above is VEVA's 1912 Detroit Electric.
This car was owned by Mrs. Florence French of Victoria, BC from 1912
till the 1950s. It was driven regularly until the mid-1950s.
Electric cars were popular with the ladies due to the ease of starting,
quietness and smoke-free cleanliness. The original Nickel-Iron batteries
were replaced in the late 1990s because the cases were deteriorated - but
they still worked fine!

As of 2012, 100 years after the Detroit Electric rolled off the assembly line,
The Nissan LEAF electric car is now in production in the Japan, the USA and the EU.
As of 2013, it is the world's best selling electric car. The LEAF has a real-world range
of 100-160 km, depending on road conditions and driving style. With charging
stations being installed at a great rate starting in 2012, including some planned
Level 3 chargers which provide an adequate charge from empty in less than an hour,
this is the pure electric with the most promise for the masses.
