EV Charging 100% ByLaws Moving Fast

| Jan 23, 2018 - The City of Port Coquitlam has passed today a new bylaw that requires 100% of parking stalls in new single and multi-family homes to have rough-ins installed for 240-volt Level 2 charging. This action follows on the heels of the City of Richmond which approved the same just weeks ago. VEVA was instrumental in the City of Vancouver's decision some years ago to require 20% of new parking to have rough-ins for charging. North and West Vancouver did the same thing as Vancouver but all three municipalities may need to modify their bylaws soon! (more ...)

 Jan 15, 2017 - Jerry Kroll is the CEO of Electra Meccanica, a local company aiming to bring a single-seat electric car to the global electric car market. "My background is motor sports — and all the cars a race car driver wants to drive are single seaters," he told host Gloria Macarenko on CBC's Our Vancouver. The three-wheeled single-seater called Solo, takes less than half the space of a regular car and still offers the driver enough room for a full cart of groceries in its front and rear trunks. Energy Innovator in Duncan BC Now Grows Energy Instead of Strawberries

| Feb 8, 2016 - Peter Nix has just installed a ground-level home solar array of 192 panels. The lifespan is 25 years with a theoretical output of 50 kW. However, the daylight output on average is much lower. Nonetheless, he will be selling power back to BC Hydro at a rate somewhere between Tier 1 and Tier 2 rates at 10 cents per kWh. At an installed cost of $145,000 and factoring in energy savings and being a micro-power generation site, Peter forcasts a minimum 4% return on his investment which beats most investments right now. VEVA President Bruce Stout Drives to Halifax and Back Using No Gas

| May 27, 2015 - Over 3 weeks and 17,895 km in May 2015, Bruce Stout drove electric (as far as PEI) in time to visit the EV2015VÉ Conference and Trade Show in Halifax. He charged for free courtesy of Sun Country Highway charge stations (and a few Tesla superchargers) along the way. He'll be participating in the E-Mazing Race starting May 27 as he starts his trip back to Vancouver. You don't have to drive cross country to participate in the E-Mazing Race. Enter for free at site and snap a photo at as many stations as you can find. Any EV club with 25 or more registrations wins a SCH charger to be placed at a public location of your choice. City of North Vancouver Installs a DC Fast Charge

 Dec 4, 2014 - The City of North Vancouver today launched the North Shore's first and only DC fast charger. Owners of Nissan Leafs, Mitsubishi i-MiEVs, Kia Soul EVs as well as Tesla Model S with CHAdeMO option will be stopping for up to 30 minutes on their way from other parts of the Lower Mainland as they fill up with an average 10 kWh ($1) worth of electricity. A 1912 Production Electric Car

Shown above is VEVA's 1912 Detroit Electric.
This car was owned by Mrs. Florence French of Victoria, BC from 1912
till the 1950s. It was driven regularly until the mid-1950s.
Electric cars were popular with the ladies due to the ease of starting,
quietness and smoke-free cleanliness. The original Nickel-Iron batteries
were replaced in the late 1990s because the cases were deteriorated - but
they still worked fine!

As of 2012, 100 years after the Detroit Electric rolled off the assembly line,
The Nissan LEAF electric car is now in production in the Japan, the USA and the EU.
As of 2013, it is the world's best selling electric car. The LEAF has a real-world range
of 100-160 km, depending on road conditions and driving style. With charging
stations being installed at a great rate starting in 2012, including some planned
Level 3 chargers which provide an adequate charge from empty in less than an hour,
this is the pure electric with the most promise for the masses.

Where Do Short Range Plugin Hybrids Fit In?

| Mar 24, 2017 - We recommend that you avoid the new fleet of very short range plug-in hybrids including the Audi (A3 e-tron); BMW (330e, 740e, X5 xDrive 40e); Mercedes-Benz (C 350e, GLE 550e, S 550e); Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera S E-Hybrids); and Volvo (XC90 T8 'Twin Engine SUV) as these are only a bridge technology to longer range plug-in hybrids coming down the pipe. Setting the bar at 25 miles of EPA-rated range, the following are much closer to all-electric: Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid at 37 miles, Chevrolet Volt at 53 miles, Chrysler Pacifica (plug-in) Hybrid at 33 miles, Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid at 27 miles, Toyota Prius Prime at 25 miles. 25 Ontario Canadian Tire Locations to Get EV Chargers

| Dec 5, 2016 - AddEnergie and Canadian Tire are partnering to add EV charging to their Gas+ locations in Ontario. Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr, who participated in Monday's announcement in Toronto, says the federal government will be contributing nearly half of the $1.8 million investment through a loan. The funding is part of the government's commitment to provide $62.5 million for fast-charging stations for electric vehicles as well as natural gas and hydrogen refuelling stations along key transportation corridors. The rapid charging costs $20 per hour, with per minute billing, while the standard charging costs $1.50 per hour. Canada's FLO charging network currently includes 70 fast-charging stations. About 65 per cent of the network is located in Quebec, 20 per cent in BC, 10 per cent in Ontario and five per cent in the Maritimes. (more ...)

Ontario has EV Incentives Up to $14,000

| Feb 10, 2016 - Ontario has announced extra incentives for people who buy or lease electric vehicles that could boost available help to as much as $14,000. Currently, incentives range from $5,000 to $8,500 per vehicle. The province is increasing that to a range of $6,000 to $10,000 for the purchase or lease of eligible plug-in EVs and will also offer an extra $3,000 incentive for EVs that have battery capacity beyond 30 kWh, and an additional $1,000 if the vehicle has at least five seats. The province is also spending $20M to build EV charging stations. (more ...)

Improved Mitsubishi Electric Racers Take 2nd/3rd Overall at Pikes Peak 2014
|
 Jun 29, 2014 - The Pikes Peak June 29, 2014 saw two MiEV Evolution III tube frame cars with 450kW and four motors take 2nd and 3rd overall a scant 2.4 seconds behind the leader in a field of 130 vehicles which included unlimited open wheel racers and motorcycles from other motorsports classes. Monster Tajima might have been in the top 5 with his improved racer but he did not get an official time due to a transponder problem. The DriveEo dual motored 360 kW Tesla roadster was only able to beat 25% of the field due to rough roads at the top. The climb to 14,000 feet makes turbos a necessity on gas cars due to the rarified air. But electric motors don't need air which is to their advantage. See 20 min video (more ...)
