Bruce Stout - Vancouver-Halifax 2015 |
Vancouver to Halifax, May 3-25, 2015
2015-05-03 - I will be leaving on this Tuesday May 5th for Halifax with my wife Susan in our Tesla Model S.
2015-05-09 - This cross Canada run will be a great story when we are returning from Halifax with the Amazing race signs on the car. It makes a better story when they realize that we have already driven from Vancouver to Halifax and are returning home. Like Kent we are bringing a bottle of Vancouver sea water to pour out in Halifax and refill with Atlantic water for the return trip.
2015-05-11 - Hi everyone, we are parked here in Winnipeg to charge our car while at dinner. Tonight we will be in Dryden ON. Mississauga on May 15 and Halifax before May 24th.
2015-05-14 - Sun Country Highway has done an excellent job of spacing charging stations across Canada. We have had several options for locations to charge every 200 to 350 kilometers. Our longest trip to date was 330 kilometers at 85 km/hr as we chose to skip a charging station in favour of going a longer distance slower into Thunder Bay.
North of lake Superior we encountered snow and 1 to 2 degrees temperature so driving at 85 km/hr in a 90 zone made this possible. Most of the traffic drives 99 in the 90 zone, so we just encourage them to pass us as w saw 5 OPP Police vehicles drive toward us yesterday. Speeding at 110 km/hr costs $95 plus 3 demerits on your licence.
This left us with almost 50 kilometers range, which sounds like a lot until you realize that the next closest charging station is 100 kilometers away. SCH90 and SCH100 stations give us 70 to 80 km of range per hour.
Yesterday we left Terrace Bay with a full charge and stopped in Wawa Ontario and ate lunch for 3 hours to gain 240 kilometers so we could drive to Sault Ste Marie, where we drank tea for 2 hours and gained an additional 140 km so we could reach Blind River where we are now. Blind river gives us 80 km/hr and charged us in 5 hours and is a must stop as it is the best room we have had yet.
I borrowed Robert Shaws 3 pin to Dryer socket adapter but have not used it as yet.
We charged over night in Kelowna using my brother in laws 120 which gave us 7 km/hr to finish up the last charge needed to reach full which is about 426 Km. We started charging at SCH90 at Kelowna hotel. Same thing in Edmonton after charging at Tesla 80 amp at Coast hotel, we finished up at Nephews house. Cranbrook start at Curling rink slow 28 km. hr charger then on to Cousins house with 30 amp dryer plug giving us 28 km/hr also.
Robert Shaw also loaned us his Leonard Cohen CD which provided music through the long radio-less expanses of Ontario. See 3 time zone picture.
Off to Sudbury truck stop SCH100 then to Barrie Ontario Tesla Supercharger and Tesla Supercharger in Woodstock for the night with friends. Friday in Tweed and Saturday in Mississauga with friends then off to Quebec and finally Halifax to complete our 7,400 km journey.
2015-05-19 - Hi from Moncton New Brunswick. Over 7,500 kilometres on the Tesla model S so far.
Yesterday we visited 4 Tesla charging stations on one day driving from Toronto to Montreal.
We have decided to visit PEI so we can see 9 of the 10 provinces on this trip.
Found FREE street parking in Quebec City and enjoyed a 4 hour visit to the city.
2015-05-20 - Susan and I spent a very pleasant 3 hours with Dave Sarchfield while our Tesla Model S charged.
Dave even loaned us his white truck so we could drive to the Subway and get lunch.
We thanked him by putting 25 litres of fuel in his truck and were amazed to find that $30 only moved the gas guage to 1/4 full.
Now I know why I drive a Battery Powered Electric Car that costs only $8 to $10 per 400 Kilometers instead of the $100 it costs Dave.
The SCH 90 charger has been fixed and now works for anyone else that visits in the Emazing Race.
We are now in Moncton at the Moncton Motel, just a short walk from the SCH90 charger at the Petrocan Gas Station.
It is fortunate that, Ross, the owner of this station also owns a Tesla Model S and has installed a SCH90 charger for everyones usage.
See those of you that are in Halifax for the convention on the evening of Monday May 25th.
2015-05-21 - We love PEI. Charged at city hall in Summerside and stayed at the Causeway Bay hotel 2 blocks away. So many stations to choose from in Summerside.
Also charged at North cap and watched sunset.
Thursday lunch at Water Prince while charging at Delta.
Now back at Moncton Hotel for the night charging at Irving.
2015-05-22 - Car charger at Irving Gas Station in Moncton NB because station owner also drives a Tesla Model S.
He knows the future and is preparing for when he no longer sells Gasoline
Most gas stations only make 5% of profit from Gasoline sales.
2015-05-25 - Got a photo of the Vancouver group at the EMC-MEC-2015 Halifax networking session on Monday night.
Halifax to Vancouver, started May 27, 2015
2015-05-28 - On our way back to YVR. Charging at Moncton NB overnight at an Irving Gas Station that is owned by a Tesla Model S driver.
2015-05-28 - Rivière de Loup Quebec. Arrived at 22:00 charged for one hour and talked with 5 young men about Tesla Model S in French, then drove to Quebec City and arrived at 1:45.
2015-05-31 - Off to Mississauga ON today having photographed every Sun Country. Charging Station on our route from Quebec City.
2015-05-31 - Kingston ON Supercharger last night with Ontario registered 85D in the photo. Yesterday started in Ottawa including a walk around the Parliament Buildings. Tonight we relax in Mississauga then start heading WEST.
2015-05-31 - Talking to the converted at Tesla Superchargers in Toronto while my car gets environmentally washed. We have completed 12,312 kilometres without buying fossil fuel on our trip so far.
2015-06-02 - Driving from Halifax NS in my Tesla Model S back home to Vancouver as part of the E-mazingrace.com. So far we have completed 13,000 kilometres without gasoline on this trip from Vancouver to Halifax and back. 33,009 kilometres on the car now. VEVA ElectroFest is July 18 in Vancouver at Concord Place.
2015-06-03 - We are currently on our way back to Vancouver. Over 13,793 additional kilometers on the car now from our start in Vancouver on May 5th. On our way to Thunder Bay tomorrow and possibly Fort Francis. Ontario is huge as we have been driving over 4 days from Toronto.
2015-06-10 - Hope - Last Supercharger in Hope BC before we arrive home after crossing Canada TWICE from coast to coast. We left Halifax on May 27 for the return trip. One of the last FREE rides across Canada.
2015-06-10 - John from Nedco helps Susan & Bruce Stout of VEVA charge their Tesla Model S on their return trip from Halifax Nova Scotia. Susan & Bruce Stout have driven 18,000 kilometres from Vancouver to Halifax and return using only Canadian Electricity to charge their Tesla Model S.
